Furoshiki – Free / Cheap ways to wrap items for travel and gifts!

8 01 2008

Read an article about Furoshiki, which is a Japanese way of wrapping items for travel. Basically you use a cloth of your choice(24″ x 24″) and depending on your object you wrap appropriately.

Bringing bottle(s) of wine to a party, these diagrams will show you how to wrap 1-2 bottles elegantly. Taking a box of chocolates to your sweety? Again a gorgeous presentation in cloth!

Not to mention you could use this for a neat staging idea! Nice cloth wrapping up a mundane object = nice look!

Best time to clean out your fridge!

8 01 2008

I know, I know, who wants to actually do any cleaning… BUT, the winter is actually one of the better times to do it. You can find plenty of places to keep refrigerated leftovers cool until you are ready to use them, or ready to pitch them.

Should be noted that the fuller your freezer is, the more energy efficient it is. The theory goes that if your freezer is empty, then each time you open the door, the air in the empty space wooshes(I made that word up! Could you tell?) out, and your refrigerator has to work to recool the space.

A good idea is to fill up empty spaces in your freezer with water filled milk and OJ containers(just make sure you leave room for the expansion of the ice in those containers).  This will also help should you have a black out.

Feel free to share your recipes for left-overs(Orts).
